sauchin 2011…an overview

You don’t step out onto the high stage in Shanghai with a South Australian tourism, wine and food promotion without a certain amount of stress in fact one expects it. The important thing is to deliver from service one, which was as usual the first press lunch. Wine matching was clocked by nearly everyone who ate with us as being absolutely spot on and Jane Paull did a brilliant job preparing the wines for service and explaining their nuances and origins. Every wine received Jane’s personal attention, tasting the wines to ensure they were sound, double decanting as required whilst at the same time imparting these essential skills to 12 Chairs front of house manager Cherry Chen and her assistant Steven.

The Sinan Mansions staff threw their weight behind the many sauchin 2011 events and over the eight days became great ambassadors for South Australia and the South Australian wine of our sponsors. A recently opened venue, Sinan Mansions is a new food, wine and lifestyle precinct in Shanghai and David Laris’ mansion houses four unique businesses; On the top level their fine dining restaurant 12 Chairs and their very sexy bar YUCCA, in the middle level their second Fat Olive a nice little Greek restaurant that is popular with local Chinese and to some degree expats. The Funky Chicken is an entry level chicken rotisserie with some very funky chicken options.

The changes in the dining scene in Shanghai since 2003 are enormous. The wine drinking public is expanding at a very rapid rate and with that expansion comes a thirst for knowledge about wine Chinese tourists to South Australia in search of further wine knowledge and a first

We are assessing precisely what was achieved for our sponsors, the projections for future opportunities and of course how we will approach sauchin 2012 but we promise it will be exciting at the top level and incorporate wine education in Mandarin and English…so stay tuned!!!
