Sumo Station Japanese Restaurant
172 Pulteney Street,
Adelaide South Australia 5000
T +61 8 8232 0188
OPEN Monday to Friday lunch from 12 noon, dinner Monday to Sunday

FOOD Sumo has been around a long time and in fact many years ago when the owners were negotiating buying the property my advice was the venue was jinxed. Luckily they didn’t take my advice. It is fair to say that Sumo city could do with a lick paint and a bit of a freshen up, but in terms of a week day city lunch their $13.50 bento box is fabulous value for money. The bento box is the traditional Japanese food box, cleverly compartmentalized so that flavours do not run into each other. Sumo have five types including teriyaki, tempura, crumbed pork cutlet and Japanese style curry and just sushi. My choice the teriyaki chicken came with six pieces of sushi, teriyaki chicken, fresh fruit, salad, steamed rice and miso soup, and whilst the fruit did look as if it had been cut a couple of days ago, the rest was fresh and tasty. A mix of traditional and modern Japanese cooking with items from the Teppan–Yaki section Sumo city delivers good value for money in the mid–price range for Japanese food in Adelaide and their lunch deal is one of Adelaide’s best.
