FOOD The Lawash Bakery on South Road was the first Afghani kebab house in Adelaide and now boasts a loyal and appreciative clientele. ’Real Aussies’ who may not go to a restaurant of any sort flock there to enjoy this very scrumptious version of the ’barby’. The most expensive plates are just $12 and some are as little as $6 for Lamb Korma and extra bread (not that you would be able to eat it) is just 50¢.
The beautiful flat bread made on the premises. Crispy skinned, soft centered and fluffy their bread is really terrific and can also be purchased to take–away as can all of their dishes. Our favourite Mixed Kebabs $10 comes with a Shami Kebab, minced lamb, Chicken Kebab and Tikka Kebab, lamb skewers and a dish of the traditional herb garlic yoghurt which we prefer. Add a massive one and a half pieces of flat bread and a plate of plain salad with iceberg, red onion, white cabbage and really good tomatoes. Food is cooked to order, not banged out like MacDonald’s but well worth the short wait. Try the Dogh $2, the unusual salted yoghurt drink commonly drunk with this food.
