FOOD One can easily suspect that most fish and chip shops buy frozen and pre-crumbed, or are supplied with equally suspect product from the central stores of the chain they represent. Yet, taking a very early morning stroll along Jetty Road it was surprising to see men filleting fish in the Bay Fish Shop.
Of all the take-away food available these days there is still nothing as good as old-fashioned fish and chips eaten sitting watching the ocean whilst fighting off the greedy gulls. Battered butterfish or garfish or whiting at the Bay Fish Shop is super fresh and the batter the perfect crispy type that encases soft succulent fish. Simple and inexpensive there is something intensely Australian about good old fish and chips by the seaside.

On a hot summer’s night it is something of a South Australian tradition to have fish and chips and take a stroll along the beach and around the Marina and enjoy the spectacular sunsets. AO
