FOOD Keong Kee is rather hard to find, and made even more confusing by the address that comes with their phone number, which says they are actually on Days Road when they are not. The easiest way is to find it, is to head down Regency Road towards Days Road, and just before the lights at Days Road there is a Civic Video on the corner of Days Road and Durant Road. Turn hard left immediately into Durant Road and on your right is Keong Kee Peking Duck BBQ with its windows festooned with Peking ducks, roast pork, ribs and soy chickens. They have just seven seats and most of their business is take-away. Most of their basic eat in dishes like Soy chicken and rice, BBQ pork and rice, Peking duck with rice are all $8.50 and also come with hoi sin sauce and in the instance of the Peking duck, the duck juices as well. A combination of all their roast meats is just $10.50 and so generous and good that I usually end up asking can I take the rest home to finish it later.
Cambodian Chinese, business partners San and Fal run a neat and tidy little shop in every sense. Meat boards are spotless and cleavers are shiny and sharp. Recently when I went there early on a Sunday they were hard at work in the equally tidy little back kitchen stitching up the ducks for Peking ducks, which they prepare and cook on the property. A lot of roast duck in Adelaide is not done on the premises and comes delivered from a central kitchen. They even sell the Emperors pancakes to go with Peking duck. These are art form and everyone is absolutely perfect. Made from a sloppy dough that is held in the hand and traced across a hot steel it is an art we have tried unsuccessfully to perfect for years.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is the extra treat of slow cooked tripe and intestines in a rich meaty soy sauce and chicken feet. Not for the faint hearted but for any offal lovers it is a real treat.
WINE unlicensed.
just around the corner behind Thuan Phat Supermarket which incidentally we just love because they sell absolutely everything from meat, to frozen fresh coconut, all manner of vegetables and much, much more, but is another of our local favourites that we have reviewed previously Yen Linh
