Today a restaurant recommendation is as close as your mobile phone or iPod. It is information that can be accessed just about anywhere on the globe and we want to be the site you trust for accurate and honest information. Whilst credible guides with a history of conventional publishing are rapidly converting to on-line guides, many on-line guides are, on close examination, advertorial. Michelin Guides might be reliable but they only deal with the very top end of the market. Newspaper guides may well take a broader look at a city, but the number of entries required to make a book financially viable invariably means there are inclusions that would not meet our criteria. In Galaxy Guides Adelaide 2006 (our only conventional print) we recommended just 54 out of many thousands of establishments in South Australia and our 2008 guide, despite expanding the review demographics remains well under 100 with a price range from about $20AUD to the limit.
It is important to know that establishments cannot pay
to be listed in Galaxy Guides and members of the general
public and restaurateurs cannot
load reviews on to our site. Our food editor Ann Oliver has 30
years experience as a highly respected practicing chef and restaurant
consultant. Our wine editors, Dr Alexandra Burridge and Duane
Coates are qualified winemakers doing Masters of Wine studies.
We have credibility!
Galaxy Guides is a privately funded project that aims to provide intelligent and informed restaurant reviewing for diners and travelers. Galaxy Guides Adelaide and regions 2008 and some of Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth are now active. We plan have fully explored Australian dining by the end of 2009. Our Shanghai section is already extensive and fabulous information for anyone visiting Shanghai. Athens will be loaded later this year as well more extensive sections for other cities including Paris, Barcelona and Madrid.
News will be a compilation of new restaurant reviews and information.
SUBSCRIBING to our newsletter and using our site (as often as possible) will also help us with advertising and enable us to substantiate site usage to potential advertisers. We need to be honest; ultimately we hope to get more money to spend on food and wine (and travel and fun).
Be obsessed with us, what would life be without food and wine?
